Southwest Hosts Legislative Breakfast

On April 10, Southwest Community Health Center was honored to host a Legislative Breakfast to discuss proposed funding cuts to Medicaid. This event was a collaboration with the medicaid Strategy Group and served as the Fairfield County installment of the statewide Medicaid Speakout Movement. Currently, around 9,500 parents on Husky A are in jeopardy of losing medical coverage and access to essential health care services in the community under Gov. Malloy's new proposed budget. Community leaders, local organizations, providers and patients were able to speak out about the importance of Medicaid. Guests had the opportunity to share thoughts and concerns with our local leaders whom included State Sen. Ed Gomes, State Sen. Tony Hwang, Representatives Chris Rosario, Ezequiel Santiago and Councilwoman Denese Taylor-Moye - 131st District.

We are grateful to have had such strong advocates present with us that morning to listen and understand the difficulties this act could bring to our community. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
